Objective This study aims to explore the effect of mycoplasma penumoniae(MP)on response to steroids / glueocorticosteroid(GC)in Children with primary nephrotic syndrome(PNS). Methods Patients diagnosed with childhood PNS were recruited into our study at the Department of Pediatrics of Fuzhou General Hospital of Nanjing Command from May 2007 to February 2011. we compare the initial response to steroids in chidren with PNS of MP infection(group of MP infection) within 4 weeks to the initial response to steroids in chidren with PNS of negative MP hybrid antibody in serum (group of negative MP hybrid antibody) within 4 weeks, when they were Comparable. Results of 9 cases enrolled of MP infection in children with PNS onset, after adequate GC was administered,4 cases'urine protein was nil within one week, accounting for 44.4%; 7 cases'urine protein was nil within two weeks, accounting for 77.7%; 8 cases'urine protein was nil within three weeks, accounting for 88.9%; 9 cases'urine protein was nil within four weeks(median times were 9 days) ,accounting for 100%. of 54 cases enrolled of of negative MP hybrid antibody in serum in children with PNS onset, after adequate GC was administered,18 cases'urine protein was nil within one week, accounting for 33.3%; 45 cases'urine protein was nil within two weeks, accounting for 83.3%; 48cases'urine protein was nil within both three weeks and four week(sthe average times were 8.90±3.90 days),accounting for 88.9%. There were no statistical significant differences in all dates aboved between the two groups (P> 0.05).Conclusions This retrospective study showed that MP infection does not influence the response to steroids in children with PNS, but the conclusion needs multi-center, prospective, large samples and randomized controlled trials to be proved.
