BackgroundShoulder pain in hemiplegia is one of the highest incidence of complications after stroke.Hemiplegia shoulder pain effect patients' upper limb rehabilitation timely and overall, then seriously affects patients' function recovery. At present, shoulder pain hemiplegia mainly treated by electrotherapy, exercise therapy, acupuncture and traditional chinese manipulation therapy, but the effect is still not satisfied. Proprioception reflexology is a kind of atraumatic manipulation of natural therapies to treat pain. The core of this therapy is using the muscle which is the receptor of proprioceptive sense and the core effect of muscle contraction in human activity. The theory of proprioceptive sensibility reflexotherapy is stimulating the muscle which is the receptor of proprioceptive sense by manipulation and exert special external force controlled by feeling to soften, regulate the lesions or imbalance parts of human. Then this treatment promotes the neural regulation, humoral regulation and self-regulation by the stimulation of external force and aim to get the central nerve conformed and feedback and accelerate the recovery of nature balanced condition of human being's internal environment. For many years, associate director Luo uses proprioceptive sensibility reflexotherapy to treat joint pain problems, and obtains good effectObjectiveTo study the clinical effect of proprioceptive sensibility reflexotherapy on shoulder pain in patients with hemiplegiaMethods 70 patients with shoulder pain in hemiplegia were randomly assigned into two groups,35 patients were treated with proprioceptive sensibility reflexotherapy, acupuncture therapy, TENS and physical therapy (treatment group) and 35 patients were treated with acupuncture therapy, TENS and physical therapy only (control group). The clinical effect was evaluated with the visual analog scale (VAS) and the Fugl-Meyer Motor test (for upper-limb).ResultAfter 3 weeks treatment, both the treatment group and control group could relieve the clinical symptom of shoulder pain in hemiplegia. There was significant difference before and after treatment (P<0.05).The scores of VAS and Fugl-Meyer Motor test (for upper-limb) in treatment group improved more significantly than the control group (P<0.05).ConclusionProprioceptive sensibility reflexotherapy and conventional therapy are effective on shoulder pain in patients with stroke.Proprioceptive sensibility reflexotherapy is a more effective therapy than conventional therapy on shoulder pain in hemiplegia.Proprioceptive sensibility reflexotherapy is worthy of clinical popularization and application.
