Objective:To identify the risk factors of anxiety in adult patients with epilepsy. Methods:Adult patients with epilepsy were collected and analyzed in Guangzhou Overseas Chinese Hospital and Guangdong 999 Brain Hospital from March 2010 to March 2011. All subjects were evaluated by Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA) Clinical and demographic data were recorded. Multiple regression analysis was used to determine factors affecting anxiety in adult patients with epilepsy. Results:a total of 116 adult patients with epilepsy (mean age(27.84±9.65),72 males and 39 females) was involved in this study. HAMA score range from 0 to 28 (10.0±5.88).34 cases (29.3%) had anxiety,48 of them(41.4%) had probable anxiety.32 cases (27.6%) had undoubted anxiety,2 cases (1.7%) had obvious anxiety. The prevalence of anxiety (HADS score>14) was 29.3%.χ2 univariate analysis and Multiple logistic regression showed that seizure frequency (OR.2.68; P:0.021) and temporal lobe epilepsy (OR:2.79 P:0.030),resident area(OR:0.46,P:0.070), was associated with anxiety in adult patients with epilepsy.Conclusion:1.The prevalence of anxiety in adult patients with epilepsy was 29.3%.2.Seizure frequency is the major risk factor for anxiety in adult epilepsy patients.3.temporal lobe and Resident area epilepsy are probably associated with anxiety in adult epilepsy patients.
