Background:Total hip arthroplasty (THA) has been an common orthopaedic procedure to relieve pain and improve the function of patients with end-stage hip diseases. However, very few studies have reported the health-related quality of life in patients with this procedure, and even fewer have compared that with health population in China. Objective:To evaluate health-related quality of life in patients treated with cementless total hip arthroplasty and investigate the influencing risk factors. Methods:The information of 147 patients (198 hips) treated with cementless total hip arthroplasty from 1993 to 2007 were collected and reviewed, All of the patients were clinically evaluated by the Harris hip scoring (HHS) system at the follow-up. The quality of life of the patients were evaluated with the MOS 12-item short form health survey (SF-12V2). The result of SF-12 was calculated by the SAS6.1 software and SPSS 18.0 software was used to analyze the data. Results:The follow-up period was 3.7 to 11.1 years, with an average of 6.2 years. The mean of Harris hip score were 90.139 at the latest follow-up. The mean of SF-12 Physical component summary (PCS) were 44.69, which were significantly lower than that in the health people; The mean of SF-12 Mental component summary (MCS) were 50.11, which were the similar to that in the health people. In the total hip arthroplasty patients, the PCS of SF-12 of male was higher than female(P< 0.05). The PCS of SF-12 of bilateral THA patients was higher than unilateral THA patients (P< 0.05). The PCS and MCS of SF-12 of ankylosing spondylitis patients were significantly lower than others (P< 0.05), the MCS of SF-12 of patients with leg length discrepancy (LLD≤1cm) was higher than others.Conclusion:1.The cementless total hip arthroplasty showed good mid-term and long-term results; 2. Harris Scores is not enough to evaluate the real outcomes of THA alone, we should use SF-12 and HHS to evaluate the outcomes of THA; 3.The influence factors of SF-12 PCS of paitents undergoing cementless THA involved age, another major joint diseases and selection of bearing surface. The influence factors of SF-12 MCS involved another major joint diseases and leg length discrepancy.
