Background: Hip arthroplasty is one of the most effective surgicalmethod to treat the pain and dysfunction of the hip joint. The bigproblems for hip arthroplasty are the well fixation of the prothesis for along time and the postoperative complications. Cemented fixation orcementless fixation which one is a better choice is controversial.Furthermore, the best proofs are needed to help orthopaedists todetermine an appropriate fixation method. Objective: It is to summarize the clinical outcome of the Ribbedanatomic cementless THA in the treatment of hip-joint disease in order tochoose a more appropriate fixation method. Methods: Between January 2001 and June 2005, the authorsperformed 38 Ribbed anatomic cementless THA in 34 patients withhip-joint disease, 21 patients with 23 THA were followed up, with theirages ranging from 29 to 55 years, and an average age of 42.7 years.Among the pations, 4 were femoral neck fracture,3 were traumaticarthritis after fracture of acetabulum, 10 necrosis of the femoral head, 4ankylosing spondylitis,2 of them were operated on both hip joints.Theaverage harris hip score of them before THA were 38.6(25-57).Results: 23 THA in 21 patients were followed up for an average of47.3 months. These patients were assessed according to Harris hip scoreand X-ray film. 93.5 % of patients had an excellent or good resultsevaluated by Harris Hip Score postoperation, there was significantdifference compared to the score preoperation(P<0.05). There was no prosthetic osteolysis and no evidence of loosening on follow-upradiographs. Pain in the thigh exist in 4 patients (19.0%),and it can berelieved by using non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug. Conclusion: Ribbed anatomic cementless THA is found to beperforming well with good clinical and radiographic results in patientswith hip-joint disease. Good master of the design and the operation willbring good results.
