Purpose:CNTF is a multifunctional neurotropic factor ,It has the powerful functions of promoting repairing and regeneration of damaged nerves .It may be a new method of treating brain damage. The experiment recognizes the relations and clinical significance of CNTF and infraction through observing the blood CNTF's content of infraction patients in different time further. Methods:The subjects are consisted of the experimental group of 50 patients with CI and the control group of 20 healthy individuals. Patients'blood samples of the experimental group is collected within 24hours, 7days and 14days after cerebral infarction. The patients with CI are divided into 3 groups according to the size of the infarction. The concentration of CNTF in serum is measured by highly sensitive enzyme-linked immunoabsorbent assay (ELISA) method.Result:1. The serum CNTF levels of experimental groups were found higher than those in control group at different time and the difference was significant (p<0.01).2. The serum CNTF level of 24hours is higher than those in groups of 7 days(P < 0.05);Statistical significant difference were not observed in the 7 days and14 days among experimental groups(p>0.05; The serum CNTF level of 24hours is higher than those in groups of 14days(P<0.05).3.The serum CNTF level of group with bigger size of the infarction is higher than those in groups of medium (p<0.05)and smaller size of the infaction(p<0.01). And,the serum CNTFlevel of group with medium size of the infarction is higher than those in group of smaller size of the infaction(p< 0.05). Conclusion:1.CNTFis sensitive and stable indicators to acute cerebralinfarction ,soCNTF is useful for early diagnosis of cerebral infarction.2. The serum CNTFlevels reflect the extent of brain tissue damage.3. CNTF may play an important role in protection and restoration of damaged brain tissue after cerebral infarction.
