Objective To study risk factors and hanpenning rates of anastomotic fistula after totalmesorectal excision(TME)in low colorectal cancer patients. In order to provide the referencefor preventive fistula and reduce hanppenning rates of anastomotic fistula. MethodsClinical data were analyzed from 125 patients in southern medical university hospital whounderwent total mesorectal excision (TME)for low colorectal cancer between January 2006 andJuly 2009 . and divided 125 patients into anastomosis and no anastomosis (two groups), usingx~2 inspection and Logistic regression analysis about various influence factors. ResultsAnastomotic fistula after total mesorectal excision (TME)occurred in 12 cases 9.6% (12/125).The median time of anastomotic fistula after operation was 5.6 days. anastomotic fistula wasclosely associated with age, diabetes, preoperative chemoradiation therapy, serum albumin, level of anastonosis and anastonosis technique; and not with gender, body mass index, infitration degree of tumor, stages, hypertension, red blood cell, hemoglobin, serum totalprotein, operative method and tumor size. Multivariate analysis showed that diabetes, level ofanastonosis, preoperative chemoradiation therapy and low albumin were independent riskfactors for fistula. Conclusion There were 9.6% of patients suffering from anastomoticfistula after anterior resection of low colorectal cancer with TME technique in our study.Diabetes, preoperative chemoradiation therapy, anastomotic distance from anus less than 5cmand low albumin were found to be independent risk factors for anastomotic fistula after totalmesorectal excision (TME).
