Objective To study the expressions of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and osteopontin (OPN) in cervical carcinoma and the relationship with invasion and metastasis of cervical carcinoma. Methods 1. Choiced 80 cases of cervical squamous cell carcinoma specimens confirmed by pathology, those without chemotherapy; 36 cases of cervical dysplasia (CIN) specimens confirmed by pathology after cervical biopsy in the out-patient department; 30 cases of normal cervical as control, those were surgeryed for uterine fibroids. Paraffin-embedding specimens, HE staining.2. Using immunohistochemistry Streptavidin-Peroxidase (SP), we detected the expression of MMP-9 and OPN in 80 cases of cervical cancer tissues, 36 cases of cervical dysplasia (CIN) specimens and 30 cases of normal cervical tissues.3. Statistical analysis: analyzed the results of immunohistochemistry withχ2 test and Fisher exact test; analyzed correlation with Spearman rank correlation analysis, P<0.05 as statistically significant. Results 1. The positive expression rate (70%,65%)of MMP-9 and OPN in cervical cancer tissues was significantly higher than that of cervical dysplasia (CIN) specimens and normal cervical tissues; the positive expression rate in CINⅢwas higher than that of CINⅠ-Ⅱ,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).2. The expression of MMP-9 and OPN in cervical histological grade, clinical stage, depth of stromal infiltration, with or without vascular invasion, with or without lymph node metastasis was different. The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).3. MMP-9 and OPN,s expression was significantly correlated(r=0.721).Conclusion 1. The expression of MMP-9 and OPN in cervical cancer tissues prompts that MMP-9 and OPN plays a central role in the course of invasion and metastasis of cervical carcinoma.2. MMP-9 and OPN,s joint detection may have a reference value in terms of the inchoate diagnosis of the cervical cancer, the evaluation and prognosis of tumor malignancy,s degree.
