Objective To expolore the status of penis arterial blood flow and the mechanism of vein closure in patients with erectile dysfunction(ED) by color Doppler ultrasound(CDUS), and to investigate the value of CDUS in the diagnosis of patients with vascular erectile dysfunction. Methods 40 cases of patients with ED by clinical diagnosed were injected with vasoactive drugs into the corpus cavernosum of penis. The penis cavernosal artery flow of these patients were detected by CDUS before and after injection of vasoactive drugs, the peaks of the systolic velocity(PSV) and the end-diastolic velocity(EDV), resistant index(RI) and artery canal diameters of penis cavernosal(D) were measured and compared. Results In the 40 cases of ED patients 14 cases of patients were non-vasculogenic ED (35%),18 cases of patients were arteriogenic ED (45%), 4 cases of patients were venous ED (10%), and 4 cases of patients were mixed venous ED (10%). The PSV of penis cavernosal artery flow of arteriogenic ED group< mixed venous ED group< non-vasculogenic ED and venous ED group(P<0.05); the EDV of venous ED group and mixed venous ED group were significantly higher than that of arteriogenic ED group and non-vasculogenic ED group(P<0.05); the RI of non-vasculogenic ED group was significantly larger than that of every vascular ED groups(P<0.01); but the increase rate of penis cavernosal artery canal diameters among all the kinds of ED groups were not significantly difference(P>0.05).Conclusion The color Doppler ultrasound has a great value for diagnosis of various types of vascular ED and discrimination of non-vasculogenic ED, and may provide the scientific basis for selecting therapy scheme of patients with ED.
