Object:To investigate the method and the clinical effectiveness of pedicle screw fixation and the intracorporeal bone grafting treatment of thoracolumbar fractures. Methods:From September 2007 to June 2009,40 cases of thoracolumbar fractures were treated with operation. In accordance with the different treatment options. All patients were divided into observer group(pedicle screw fixation and the intracorporeal bone grafting treatment) and control group(pedicle screw fixation). All patients were followed up for an average of 6-15 months and fluoroscopy, neoropathic-function and clinical symptom were analyzed. Results:There were no significant differences between the 2 groups in either the anterior body height or Cobb angle correction in immediate postoperation. But in postoperative one-year follow-up, both the anterior body height and Cobb angle correction had no significant changes in pedicle screw fixation and the transpedicle bone grafting treatment group, and complication of internal fixation is not occurring. But changed obviously in pedicle screw fixation and without bone graft group. There were no significant differences between the 2 groups in functional recovery of spinal cord. Conclusion:Treatment of thoracolumbar fracture with autogenous and allogenic bone fusion vertebroplasty and pedicle screw fixation is effective and can maintain the the anterior body height of vertebra and reduce fixation failure. It is worth of clinical application.
