ObjectivePeriodontal disease is a chronic, infectious and destructive disease that occurs in dental tissue. As the complexity of periodontal disease pathogenesis, current treatment's effect of that has been less than ideal. Now, the drug therapy is still an indispensable way to control infection. In order to explore the role of anti-inflammatory medicine and look for a method of local application at low cost and easy to grasp, this study used experience prescription gold anti-inflammatory plaster from Professor Li Boling of Henan Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It design principles in accordance with traditional Chinese medicine preparation with nine herbs such as baical skullcap root, honeysuckle bud and flower, tokyo violet herb, tree peony root bark, dandelion, isatis root, unprocessed rehmannia root, lightyellow sophora root and peppermint, which has effects of clearing heat and removing toxicity, cooling blood for hemostasis and promoting blood circulation for removing blood stasis. Then we put it into periodontal pockets of patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of anti-inflammatory plaster on the reduction of gingivitis, gingival bleeding and Plaque of patients with periodontitisMethods48 patients of chronic periodontitis patients with acute period were selected who saw the doctor between January 2007 and March 2010 for the experiment. It included 19 male cases and 29 female cases, the oldest of which was 61 years, while the youngest was 26 years and the average age was 46.2. There were 340 offending teeth of them.Preparation of gold anti-inflammatory plaster:first, we put the nine herbs into the warm water for 30 minutes. After being boiled for 2 hours, we removed the filtrate and made dregs boiled for 1.5 hours again. The total volume of the filtrate merged was 4450ml and we concentrated it to 1000ml.Then 1000 ml decoction and 1000ml 95% alcohol were mixed, stired and extracted and we got 2000ml supernate and remaining dregs by centrifuged. We concentrated the 2000ml into 150ml and added 50ml glycerin to it and made 200ml as a result. One millilitre of the final soup amount to 3.0g in herbs. This potion was saved in the fridge at 4℃.The experiment made the teeth of same patient as the control design. We divided two sides of teeth into the experiment group and the control group. All the teeth which receive treatments were tested in 4 indicators including PD, PLI, GI, SBI. The parts of the pockets were washed and blow-dried with 3% perhydrol and physiological saline in turn. The experiment group adapted the method that the pockets were fulfilled with the ointment by the forceps, while the control group adapted the method:put the iodic glycerine into the pockets by the probe dipping it. We did it the second time following the way above mentioned two days later. We observed the main symptoms, tested kinds of clinical indicators. After that, we did periodontal scaling and curettage.Results1. Before treatment, the indicators in two groups were not statistically different (P>0.05).2. After treatment, periodontal pocket depth, gingival index, sulcus bleeding index and symptoms of the text group improved more significantly than the control group, except plaque index (P<0.05).Conclusion1. Gold anti-inflammatory plaster has a better anti-inflammatory inhibition, obvious anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and hemostatic function for acute phase of chronic periodontitis patients.2. Local medication can remission acute inflammation and relieve pain in patients, satisfactory clinical efficacy, conducive to scaling curettage was carried out smoothly.3. Gold anti-inflammatory plaster for the further development and application of Chinese medicine in the local treatment of periodontal disease provides a new method.
