Objective:To study the prevalence and the correlated factors of mental disorder due to brain injury.Methods:240 subjects with traumatic brain injury in the Psychiatric Hospital of Henan province within last 2 years were assessed with Personality Disorder Questionaire for CCMD-3-R (PDQC), Structured Clinical Interview for CMD-3-R (SCICP). The demographic data and history of brain injury were collected before interview. Based on the diagnostic criteria of organic mental disorder in CCMD-3, mental disorders of 240 subjects were diagnosed. The correlated factors of mental disorders in patients with brain injury were analyzed using t-test, chi-square test, and logistic regression analysis. Results:A) The morbidity rate of mental disorders in patients with brain injury was 74.6%(179/240),28.7% of these subjects suffered from organic amnesic syndrome, 24.6% organic neurotic syndrome,22.9% organic personality change,19.6% organic intellectual impairment,17.1% organic mood disorders, and 14.2% organic psychotic symptoms. B) The mental disorders in patients with brain injury were correlated with education level, nature and severity of brain injury, left frontal lobe injury, left temporal lobe injury, multiple lobes of brain injury subdural hematoma. The mental disorders in patients with brain injury were negatively correlated with claim of compensation. C) There were different correlated factors in different type of mental disorders:organic intellectual impairment was correlated with severity of brain injury, and organic amnesic syndrome was correlated with education level. D) In the mild and moderate group, the most common CCMD-3 diagnoses were organic intellectual deficiency, and severe group were organic neurosis-like syndrome. There is a condition in all patients in which exaggerate physical or mental symptoms. Conclusion:Education level, nature and severity of brain of brain injury, the location of brain injured, multiple lobes injury, and the complication of brain injury may affect morbidity of mental disorders in patients with brain injury.
