Obiective:To study the common carotic artery intima-media thickness and left ventricle stucture and function in patients with prehypertension and impaired glucose tolerance.Method:Selectede 200 out-patients and in-patients betweent the age form 55 to 70,form May 2008 to May 2010. All the cases were divided into 4 groups:nomral group(n=39),prehype-rtension group(n=54),impaired glucose tolerance group(n=63),prehypertension and impaired glucose tolerance group(n=44).All patients'blood pressure,body mass index(BMI) were determind.Blood tests,including triglyeride(TG),total cholesterol(TC),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),2-hour postprandial blood glucose(2hPBG); High-sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP) were measured with turbidmetry; Detected common carotic artery intima-media thickness (CCA-IMT) with carotid arteries. Left ventricular mass index(LVMI),midwall fractional shortenin(mFS),peakE/peakA(E/A) were measured by echocardiography.Results:(1)Common carotic artery intima-media thickness was increased in prehypertension group and impaired glucose tolerance group(all P<0.01),and significantly higher in prehypertensio and impaired glucose tolerance group.There were interactons between blood gulcose and blood pressure. CCA-IMT were increased with systolic pressure,2-hour postprandial blood glucose,high-sensitivity C-reactive protein.(2) Left ventricle mess was higher in prehypertension group and prehypertensio and impaired glucose tolerance group(all P<0.01),increasd with systolic pressure,diastolic pressure.(3) Midwall fractional shortenin was also higher in prehypertension group and prehypertension and impaired glucose tolerance group(all P<0.01), increased with systolic pressure and diastolic pressure. Although,peakE/peakA was increased with systolic pressure, but no statistically differences were observed between four groups(all P>0.05).Conclusion: (1) Prehypertension group had higher CCA-IMT indicating impairment of vascular had excisted in prehypertension. CCA-IMT were significantly thicker in prehypertension and impaired glucose tolerance group,indicating the interactons between blood gulcose and blood pressure would inceased atherosclerosis.(2) Prehypertension group had higher LVMI and lower mFS indicating impairment of left ventricle stucture and systolic function had excisted in prehypertension.And slight abnormal glucose metabolism do not exacerbate such target damages.
