Objective To investigate the expression pattern of phosphorylated AKT(P-AKT)in human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) and to analyze its relationship with clinicopathologic parameters. Methods The protein expression of P-AKT in human esophageal cancer tissues and their corresponding normal mucosa was detected immunohistochemically (IHC) by means of tissue microarray (TMA). Its correlation with clinical characteristics was evaluated and analyzed by univariate analysis. All statistical analyses were performed by SPSS version 15.0.Results The positive rate of P-AKT was significantly higher in Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(70.8%)than in the control tssue (20%) (P<0.01); and expression level of P-AKT was. significantly correlated with lymphnode metatasis (P<0.05; no correlation was observed with histological differentiation and depth of invasion (P>0.05).Conclusion The hyperexpression of P-AKT may play an important role in the initiation and devolopment of human Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, and may be a new target for targeted therapy of Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.
