Thalassemia is a group of genetic and hemolytic disease induced by disfunction of globin synthesis, which results from globin protein chain peptide synthesis partial or complete inhibition. The disease has regional activity, and it is genetic disease which has the highest incidence of in the world. Therefore, in China, the incidence is highest in provinces in south of the Yangtze River, expect for Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan provinces, and Guizhou, Yunnan and Sichuan provinces are also the high-incidence areas. Recently, the thalassaemic research is increasing day after day, but curative effect mechanism of different TCM therapy is rare to research. Our study gives a summarization about the reports of proven case on thalassemia and Large-scale clinical trials of traditional Chinese medicine and pharmacy in recent 15 years, especially curative effect mechanism combined modern pharmacology of traditional Chinese medicine, and expound the multiple target point and overall comprehensive effect of Chinese medicine therapy. And it also gives a summarization about the modern medical pathogenesis and classification, the hemolytic mechanism, the molecular basis, and advances in thalassaemic treatment, etc. And it gives an outlook to the prospect of traditional Chinese medicine on thalassemia in the future.The traditional Chinese medicine reveals that the pathological organ of the disease is related to all the five internal organs, especially Kidneys. The Kidneys are the root of congenital constitution, store the Essence, rule the bones and produce the marrow. If it is congenitally deficient, the deficient of Kidney Essence is inevitable. For homogeny of Essence and Blood, and transformation of each other, if Kidney Essence is deficient, Essence will be not enough to change into Blood. Long time later, it inevitably leads to the patterns of deficient Blood. The Spleen is traditionally referred to as the foundation of postnatal existence, for it is the source of sufficient Blood and Qi in the body. Postnatal existence replies on congenital constitution to nourish. If it is congenitally deficient, the lack of source of Blood and Qi in the body is inevitable with the passing of time. The basic etiological factor and pathogenesis is majorly on the basis of weak natural endowment, the deficiency of Essence and Blood. In clinical, traditional Chinese medicine basic patterns are deficiency of Liver-yin and Kidney-yin, deficiency of Spleen-yang and Kidney-yang, deficiency of Heart and Spleen.Our study aimed to observe the clinical curative effect of TCM treatment thalassemia intermedia.45 patients were randomly divided into 3 groups confirmed cases, according to TCM differentiation the given 3 different syndromes formulas,3 months for one treatment, observe clinical symptoms before and after treatment to explore the changes of their clinic symptoms, their levels of Hb, RBC, Ret and HbF. Results:after three months, the patient's clinical symptoms improved obviously, and their haematology parameters (Hb, RBC, HbF, Ret) enhanced significantly. Before and after the treatment, their haematology parameters of 3 groups are obvious change, which are statistically significant differences. Conclusion:Three different syndromes formulas have better therapeutic action in the treatment of thalassemia intermedia.Our study aimed to investigate the effect of three different kinds of TCM herbs on inhibition of proliferation and induced erythrocytic differentiation of human K562. Methods to examine the effect of three different kinds of TCM herbs induced on proliferation of K562 by trypan blue staining; to detect the change of the rate of benzidine-positive cells and erythrocytic differentiation of K562 by cytochemistry and spectrophotometric method. Results:the methods of nourishing the Liver and Kidney, enhancing Heart and Spleen could significantly inhibit the proliferation of K562 ex vivo; Three kinds of treatment promoted the expression of Hb. Conclusion:the methods of nourishing the Liver and Kidney, enhancing Heart and Spleen could significantly inhibit the proliferation ex vivo, and the therapeutic effect is better in nourishing the Liver and Kidney group than the positive control group; Everyone of the three kinds of treatment can induce the differentiation towards erythroid cell of K562 ex vivo, and the therapeutic effect is better nourishing the Liver and Kidney group than the positive control group.
