Objective:The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of Buyang Huanwu Decoction by comparison of different treatment methods for low median nerve injury in the postoperative, to fully exploit the theory of Chinese medicine resources and strengths and to provide a new method for the clinical approaches.Method:According to the second edition of《Hand Surgery》diagnostic criteria, edited by Wang Shuhuan, and combined with self-defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. From May 2009 to October 2009,60 patients with median nerve injury in the wrist were seleted and randomly divided into treatment group (n=30) and control group (n=30).There was 33 males and 27 females, the age was 24.0 to 54.5 years, with an average of 38.0 years. All cases in Two groups were given conventional therapy, including microsurgical operation, anti-infective therapy, plaster braking, physiotherapy and the functional rehabilitation exercise. At the same time, the patients in the treatment group were received oral intake of Buyang Huanwu Decoction, while the control group methycobal instead after operation. The therapeutic time was 3 months. The sensation level, mosing two points discrimination(2m-PD) and thumb opposing function of finger were examined at the end of the 1st,3rd and 6th month postoperation. Every case in the groups had an examination of blood, urina routine and a test of liver and kidney function before and after treatment. Six months later, date was collected for statistical analysis, and the clinical efficacy and safety were evaluated in the prospective self-controlled study.Result:There was no significant difference between two groups at the end of 1st and 3rd month. But at the end of 6th month, the difference was distinct, the comparison showed that the patients in the treatment group was superior to the control group in the motor and sensory recovery. The function of liver and kidney, and the blood, stool, urine routine had no significant change in the two groups before and after the treatment.1 case had gastrointestinal side effects and 1 case anaphylactic response in the treatment group, while 2 cases had astrointestinal side effects and no anaphylactic response in the control group. The difference of incidence of side effects was not distinct between the two groups (X2=0.00, P=1.00).Conclusion:Buyang Huanwu Decoction is effective and safe in treating low median nerve injury. Maybe it is not the specific drug for median nerve injury, while Buyang Huanwu Decoction can accelerate the restoration of sensation and motor. This prescription has the advantages of rich supply, satisfying clinical efficacy, few side effects. It is an ideal and suitable therapeutic way to median nerve injury, and has broad prospects for development and application in clinical practice.
