Objective To analyze and explore the characteristic of auditory steady-state response (ASSR) in infants and young children with enlarged vestibular aquaduct Syndrome (LVAS) and its treatment. Comparing auditory brain stem response indicates the advantages of such an objective test method.Methods The measurements of auditory steady-state response (ASSR) and brain stem response (ABR) was obtained from 40 infants (80 ears) with profound sensorineural hearing loss .No measurable responses of wave V in ABR were from in all infants in the study,but acquired from the measurements of ASSR.Experiment group are twenty cases(40 ears) with LAVS,control group was twenty cases with non-LVAS.comparing the positive incidence and the averaged response thresholds of ASSR in five different frequencies between LVAS patients and non-LVAS patients. aged 0.75~9 years,Data were analyzed by SPSSResults The positive incidences of ASSR in infants and young children with LVAS were substantially higher than the one of non-LVAS group at 500Hz tone stimuli.The difference of incidences at 500Hz tone was statistically significant( P < 0.0001). At 500Hz and 1000Hz ,the difference of averaged response threshold intensities between LVAS and non-LVAS group were also statistically significant.Conclusion Compared with ABR test, ASSR test is accurate ,and shows frequency specific assessment at high presentation levels.It also provides us with some information of hearing in hearing impaired children at severe and profound degree .Characteristic of ASSR in the LAVS patient is the residual hearing in low frequency tone stimuli , the LVAS patients are sensetive to the tone stimuli at 500Hz and 1000Hz...
