Objective:To explore the process and correlation risk factors for postoperative sudden death of urology by a retrospective study, and to research the high risk factors for postoperative sudden death of urology, in order to provide a basis for preventive measures. Methods:A hospital-based case-control study was conducted from 1980 to 2008 in the first Affliated hospitals of Guangxi Medical University.38 patients admitted for sudden death, The age of the sudden death cases were from 34 to 95 years old, mean age of the patients was 61.92±13.45 years. Classification of diseases:prostate disease 11 cases, renal and ureteral calculi 18 cases, bladder cancer 3 cases, renal malignancy tumor 3 cases, adrenal tumor 1 case, penile cancer 1 case, perirenal abscess 1 case. The cases and controls were matched with 1 to 2 of random by age, gender, disease and operation technique. and the controls were from 35 to 93 years old, mean age was 60.93±12.97 years. The data were analyzed with x2 for single factor, and then the single statistical significance factors were regarded as multiple factors and was carried on the multiple logistic regression analysis. Results:Thirty eight sudden death patients and seventy six controls was selected, male to female was 6.60:1.The single factors analysis show ed that ECG,high blood pressure, the use of hemostatic, sudden activity after long-term bed rest, coronary artery disease and cardiac inadequacy, venous thrombosis, preoperative pneumonia and lung function inadequacy, postoperative blood transfusion, second operation were risk factors (P<0.05).All of them was carried on the multiple logistic regression analysis and showed that high blood pressure, Sudden activity after long-term bed rest, coronary artery disease and cardiac inadequacy, preoperative pneumonia and lung function inadequacy were very closely associated with sudden death. The values of OR were 3.27,15.59,5.29 and 6.89 respectively. Conclusion:Sudden death is the serious complication of postoperation.Hypertension, Sudden activity after long-term bed rest, coronary artery disease and cardiac inadequacy, Preoperative pneumonia and lung function inadequacy were the main high risk factors of postoperative sudden death.
