Objective:To investigate the differences of quality of life of postoperative patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma through compared with the forearm free flap and traditional method (include pectoralis major myocutaneous flap, submental island flap and simple suture),and to direct the operation methods and the treatment protocols of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma.Mathod:To retrospective review the quality of life of postoperative patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma,who was treated in the department of head and neck surgery,cancer hospital of Guangxi Medical University from August 2004 to August 2009. The method of Quality of life questionnaire is Tele-Interview.The questionnaire use the University of Washington quality of life UW-QOL questionnaire version 4. The information of patient's clinical data was collected from the patient's clinical cases.All cases was divided into two group according to the course of disease, the clinical pathology, the location of the diseases and the seletion of operative methods,and analyse the data.Furthermore, all cases was divided into different group according to the postoperatie time and the T stage,and discuss the differences of quality of life between the forearm free flap and traditional method.Results:82 patients of all 86 cases completed quality-of-life investigation.The UW-QOL average score of postoperative patients is 682.85.The QOL score of the patients with long-term couse, highly differentiated squamous, carcinoma of buccal mucosa and forearm free flap treatment is higher than the patients with short-term course,middle-poor differentiated squamous,carcinoma of tongue and traditional method. There was statistical significant difference.the QOL average score of the patient with forearm free flap is 77.05,and the QOL average score of the patient with traditional method is 46.97. There was statistical significant difference.Futhermore, with the extension of postoperative time, the QOL score of the patient with forearm free flap treatment increased more obviously than the patient with traditional method. In addition, relative to all cases with different T stage,the score of forearm free flap are higher than the score of the traditional method.Conclusion:The forearm free flap has many advantages in oral squamous cell carcinoma postoperatively repair.And the forearm free flap have got QOL score,also. Therefore, the forearm free flap should be regard as the first postoperative defect repair of oral squamous cell carcinoma patients.
