As an important blood component, the plateletpheresis product is used to treat emergency thrombocytopenic disease, and prevent or treat hemorrhagic diseases. As people know more about plateletpheresis, it has more application in clinical transfusion and becomes a major source of modern componental blood transfusion. Limited by donating platelets environment and the acquisition mode, most plateletpheresis donors are the relatively fixed blood donors. In China, a standard for the plateletpheresis donors has been made. Although strictly performing the state health inspection standards for blood donors, PLT≥150×109/L, at intervals of 1 month, single-platelet donation will not damage the health of blood donors, however, frequent platelet donation would lead to changes of Hb,MPV, P-LCR and other indicators in blood donors in various degrees. It has been reported that partial blood parameters of platelets donators are different from those of normal individual. However, blood indices differ in different population and individuals. The results from different population could not reflect the side effect of long-term platelet donation on health of donators exactly. In addition, comprehensive analysis and research reports about changes of blood indices in long-term fixed platelet apheresis donors have not been found so far.In this study,74 blood donors who donated platelet more than 5 times in Jinan Blood Center since 2005 were included. According to the frequencies of blood donation, a comprehensive analysis of blood indices in donors after several donation was performed. The present study aimed to reveal the correlation of blood parameters change in long-term fixed-platelet apheresis donors and the total number of donated platelets, which would provide new experimental data for further study on the effect of frequentplatelet donation on the donor health and quality of apheresis platelets.Results:(1)Total WBC count was reduced significantly (P<0.01) in blood donors after they donated platelets 20 times. However, there was no significant difference in the total WBC count of blood donors when they donate platelets for 20 times and 30 times (P>0.05). Though W-SCR decreased significantly (P<0.05), W-LCR only showed a moderate downward tendency (P>0.05). (2) RBC count decreased significantly when the number of platelet donation was more than 15 times (P<0.05). While the Hct and MCV of donors decreased significantly after they donated platelets more than 10 times (P<0.05), then the level of Hct and MCV moved toward stability. Hb of donors increased after they donated platelet for 20 times, but Hb levels in donors showed no significant difference when they donated platelets for 20 times and 30 times (P>0.05). (3) Both Plt platelet count and MPV reduced significantly when the donors donated platelets more than 20 times (P<0.05), but there were no differences in Plt platelet count and MPV levels after they donated platelets for 20 times and 30 times. Whereas PDW showed no significant changes during the process of different donation.Conclusion:Long-term fixed platelet donation cuased WBC, RBC, Hct, MCV, Plt, MPV and P-LCR reduction when the donatin numbers were more than 20 times, then the reduction kept at a stabilizing level. However, inhibition of long-term platelet donation to the formation of blood cells in donors and related mechanisms deserve further attention.
