Objective:To observe the effect of melatonin combined with BMSCs transplantation on recovery in rats after spinal cord injury, and observe migration of the implanted Brdu marked BMSCsMethods:The spinal cord injuried model of 48 rats was established by the modified Allen's method to damage the 10th thoracic vertebra of animal. Sixty rats were used and randomly devided into five groups①Cmbination therapy with MT and BMSCs transplantation group;②BMSCs transplantation group;③MT group;④the injury group; control group(no treatment) (12 rats). After establishment of rat models of spinal cord injury, the animals of group①,②that received BMSCs transplantation were marked by injection into rats injured region, the animals of group①,③were treated with MT(100mg/kg) everyday. The neurologicalfunctions core and immunohistochemical examination were assessed at certain time after injury. Results:Motor function of hind limbs was better in the group①than in the group②, and the group②is also better than in the group③,④,⑤.Conclusion:MT and BMSCs transplantation can promote structure and functional rehabilitation of spinal cord injury. The outcome is significantly better than in the BMSCs group. There may be a synergistic effect between MT and BMSCs.
