Background:Ovarian cacer is one of three female reproductive malignant tumors ,the grade maligancy of it is vary high, moreover, the morbiduty of it has escalating trend in .ecent year .At the precent time ,the mortality of the ovarian cacer is still the highest in gynecological malignancy. The five year survival rate still under 30%.yet,epithilial ovarian cacer acout of 75%-90% of ovarian cacer ,the health and life of women is serious threaten. To regulate logical plan for medical treatment, raise the effectiveness of patients with ovarian cacer and improve the prognosis, more study is imperative. Approximately one thirdhave localized disease (stages I and II according to the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics [FIGO], classification). Despite the appearance of localized disease and the absence of obvious residual tumor, approximately 20% of stage I and 50% of stage II patients will die as a result of recurrent ovarian cancer. The treatment of patients with early stage epithelial ovarian cancer at increased risk for recurrence remains controversial. Large number of study consider that radiotherapy has therapautic action in ovarian cacer. However, up to now, whether the ovarian tumor in early stage needs radiotherapy or not is still uncertain. Objectives:In our study, we will try to make it clear whether the radiotherapy of the epithelial ovarian tumor after operation can prolong the lifespan or the disease-free survival of the patients or not, and provide some basis to this issue. Methods:We collected all the domestic and abroad articles about ovarian tumor for clinical summary and meta analysis. The database included Pubmed, Medline, CNKI and CBM. In the library of Shandong University, we retrieved all the articles, selected, checked and analyzed them.Data collection and analysis:The data was collected and analyzed by one operator. Results:Totally five articles and 862 patients were included. Meta analysis on the selected literature was conducted by means of Review Manager 4.2 software. During 1989 to 2008, five studies were included, the odds ratio of the final results was 1.13and 95 % confidence interval was at 0.81-1.58. In the Funnel plot, the plots of five studies were symmetrical. According to the diffreent methods of radiotherapy, divivde into WAR group and intraperitoneal P32 group, the results were the OR=1.45(95%CI,0.78-2.69) and OR=1.02(95%CI,0.68-1.52),there is no statustically significant different for either therapy. Conclusions:Our study indicates that for epithelial ovarian cacer in early Stage ,the radiotherapy after operation can not prolong the life span of the patients . There is no significant difference between the radiotherapy group and the chemotherapy group (P=0.48).owever,since the data and randomized clinical trials about ovarian cacer in Stage I- II are still very few, our study is based on only five articles. Therefore, it still needs further study in the future.
