ObjectiveRecurrent vascular events after ischemic stroke is the main reason of mortality and disability of cerebrovascular disease. We determined the free plasma total C -reactive protein and interleukin-6 of 151 patients with first-ever cerebral infarction and 52 age- and gender-matched healthy controls Within a 1-years follow-up period,we observed the recurrence of cerebral infarction in 151 patients. To explore the possible effect of the plasma C -reactive protein and interleukin-6 level on the risk of recurrent cerebral infarction patients by follow-up research in hope for finding a new theoretical evidence for the therapy and the prophylaxis of cerebral infarction.MethodsThis paper gathered the clinical data of the first-ever cerebral infarction patients in Department of Neurology,De Zhou People's Hospital from January 1 2006 to January 1 2007 and 52 age- and gender-matched healthy controls. All cases were diagnosed according to cerebrovascular diagnostic criteria revised by Chinese Medical Association Fourth National Conference on cerebrovascular diseases and identified by CT/MRI scan. The concentrations of serum C -reactive protein,interleukin-6,tiglyeride total cholesterol and glucose in 151 patients with acute CI were measured in 72 huors after the first event.History of past illness and general states were recorded together in this paper. We divided the patients into normal CRP group and abnormal CRP group according to the outcome. The cases were followed up in a year since the first event and observed the recurrence of cerebral infarction in the 2 groups. The concentration of CRPandIL-6,and general states was compared between the patients and the controls.CI recurrent rate, the concentration of IL-6 and general states was compared between group with FA concentration decrease and normal group, group with normal CRP and group with abnormal CRP. Logistic regression model were used to calculate which factors contributed to recurrence.Results158patients were found to have had a first-ever cerebral infarction during the study period.154 patients were followed up.There are 3 patients were died from other reasons. At last 151 patients were in this study. The level of serum C -reactive protein,interleukin-6,tiglyeride total cholesterol and glucose in the pations is higher than in the controls. The recurrent rate and the level of abnormal CRP group is higher than of normal CRP group. The two differences between them is statistically significant(p<0.05).Logistic regression model disclose:The main stroke recurrenc factors with statistical significance include: IL-6(P=0.002,OR=1.044,95%CI=1.015-1.073),CRP(P=0.000,OR=1.932, 95%CI=1.386-2.606).ConclusionsCerebral infarction disease with determinate recurrent rate.IL-6 and CRP are independent risk factors of recurrent cerebral infarction.
