Objective To investigate the clinical features of bronchioloalveolar cell carcinoma(BAC) and factors influencing the ratio of stage I BAC.Materials and methods Clinical data of patients with BAC from June 2006 to September 2008 were collected from Shandong Provincial Hospital. According to the results of pathology, the patients were divided into two groups, stage I BAC and other stages BAC. Gender, age, smoking index, clinical manifestations, the location of lesions, period from discovering the lesions or symptoms appear to diagnosis is made and imaging features were retrospectively analyzed. Results The enrolled cases in this study accounted for 4.2% (49/1171) of patients with pulmonary bronchiogenic carcinomas and 9.8% (49/500) of patients with pulmonary adenocarcinomas who were admitted by Shandong Provincial Hospital during the same period. The ratio of male to female was 1: 1.33. The ratio of stage I BAC was correlated with gender. Age, smoking index, clinical manifestations, the location of lesions, period from discovering the lesions or symptoms appear to diagnosis is made and imaging features didn' t influence the the ratio of stage I BAC. Conclusions The relationship between smoking and BAC is not so close as smoking and other NSCLC; Because of the radiological diversity, BAC may be misdiagnosed; The ratio of stage I BAC in female is higher than that in male; Surgery remains the primary treatment method.
