AimWhether oxidative stress indicators can be as the markers for cirrhotic hepatofibrosis and development of portal hypertension at various stages is still obscure. In this study,we were to investigate the oxidative-stress-related changes in patients with portal hypertension caused by hepatitis B virus infection.Methods45 serum samples from patients with portal hypertension caused by hepatitis B virus infection were classified to 3 groups according to Child Pugh Grading. Oxidative stress indicators such as malondialdehyde(MDA) and antioxidative indicators-Vitamin C,Vitamin E,hydroxy radical inhibitory ability,as well as serologic indicators such as Alanine aminotransfarase and Hepatitis virus DNA were detected in the samples.Results1.The Alanine aminotransfarase lever were significantly increased in the portal hypertensive patients,as compared with healthy controls(P<0.05).increased in the portal hypertensive patients,as compared with healthy controls(P<0.05).In Child B,the level was higher than that in Child A and C,while no significant difference was find of the lever in Child A and C.2.The lever of HBV DNA in Child B was the lowest in the portal hypertensive patients(P<0.05),while there was no difference in Child A and C.3.Oxidative stress indicators were significantly increased in the portal hypertensive patients,as compared with healthy controls(P<0.05).In portal hypertensive patients, the level of MDA in Child C was significantly higher than that in Child A and B classes(P<0.05).4.The levels of Vitamin C and Vitamin E in the patients with Child-Pugh B class were significantly higher than that with Child A and C classes. There was no difference in other classes.5.The levels of Vitamin C and Vitamin E in the patients were positively correlated with ALT(r1=0.63,r2=0.72),negatively correlated with serum HBV DNA level (r3=-0.70,r4=-0.66).6.Significantly differences of hydroxy radical inhibitory ability were not detected in the three classes, while they were significantly lower than that in the healthy controls(P<0.05).ConclusionsThis study demonstrates that oxidative stress plays an important role in the development of portal hypertension. The level of oxidative stress indicator in portal hypertensive patients appears higher than healthy controls and the antioxidative system is injured in the portal hypertensive patients. We should pay more attention to Child B class.
