| Object:To Compare the medium and long-term follow-up results in anterior decompression and fusion procedures with PEEK cage and plate of cervical spine.Method:This retrospective study analyzed the outcome of 128 patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy. All the patients were divided into group A and B.There were 61 cases in group A who underwent anterior decompression and fusion procedures with PEEK cage, and 67 cases in group B who underwent anterior decompression and fusion procedures with plates. The group A and B were divided into four subgroups:A1(one cage),A2(two cages),B1(single-level fixation), and B2(double-level fixation). The patients' demographics, radiographic measurements, surgical time, blood loss, intervertebral fusion rate, and JOA scores during the follow-up were included in this study. In addition, preoperative and postoperative complications were also recorded and compared.SPSS 11.5 was used for variance analysis. Results:The surgical time and blood loss in Group A(A1:43.6min, 20.4mi;A2:52.5min,24.6ml) were less than those in group B(B1: 58.7min,36.6ml;B2:65.3min,42.8ml).The mean follow-up period for this study was 36 months(ranged 24~60months).There was no significant difference in fusion rate(A1:95.5%;A2:94.9%;B1: 96.3%;B2:97.5),intervertebral height and clinical outcome according to the JOA scores(A1:84.3%,A2:83.8%,B1:85.2%,B2: 85.6%) between four groups(p>0.05).There were less complications in group A but no statistical significances were observedConclusion:Both surgical treatments acquired equal results in the treatment of cervical spondylotic myelopathy. There were less early complications in the patients treated with PEEK-cage(particularly in one segment)... |
