Objective: To investigate the expression of mPGES-1 in endometriosis for exploring the role of mPGES-1 in the pathogenesis of endometriosis. Methods: Immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR were used to detect the expression of mPGES-1 in the ectopic and eutopic endometrium from 40 cases with endometriosis (eutopic endometrium group and ectopic endometrium group ) and in the normal endometrium of 30 cases without endometriosis(control group). Results: The expression of mPGES-1 in ectopic and eutopic endometrium group was high positive, and it was puny in control group. We revealed increased mPGES-1 immunoreactivity in ectopic endometrium group and eutopic endometrium group compared with control group. Increased expression of mPGES-1 mRNA was detected in ectopic endometrium group and eutopic endometrium group compared with control group. The mPGES-1 immunoreactivity and mPGES-1 mRNA in ectopic endometrium group was significantly higher than that in eutopic endometrium group and control group. The mPGES-1 immunoreactivity and mPGES-1 mRNA in secretory phase was significantly higher than that in proliferative phase in the eutopic group; there was no difference between the different menstrual phase of the contrl group. Conclusions :1 The up regulation of mPGES-1 in endometriosis suggestes thatmPGES-1 may play a role in the pathogenesis of endometriosis.2 The mPGES-1 in the eutopic endometrium may correlated with the menstrual cycle.
