Objectives To observe the expression of Steroidogenic factor 1(SF-1) and Steroidogenic acute regulatory protein(StAR) in endometriosis, and to explore the association of the expression of the two factors with the severity of endometriosis. Methods Endometriotic tissue was picked from 38 patients of EMs from March 2006 to December 2007 who underwent surgery in our department, and all of them were confirmed endometriosis by histology examination. We used 25 normal endometrium picked from patients who underwent diagnostic curettage and laparoscopy.Expression of SF-1 protein and StAR protein in 25 normal endometrium as well as 38 ectopic endometrium in endometriosis were detected by immunohistochemistry and the results were analyzed with SPSS11.0 statistical solfware.Main Results1.The expression of SF-1 protein in endometriotic tissues measured by immunohistochemistryThe expression of SF-1 protein in EMs group was significantly higher than that of the control group(P<0.05).2.The expression of StAR protein in endometriotic tissues measured by immunohistochemistryThe expression of StAR protein in EMs group was significantly higher than that of the control group(P<0.05). 3.Relativity between the expression of SF-1 protein and StAR protein in EMsThere was significant relativity between the expression of SF-1 protein and StAR protein in the endometriotic tissues(P<0.05).4.Relativity between the expression of the two proteins and the severity of EMsIn the endometriotic tissues, expression of SF-1 and StAR was associated with the severity of endometriosis(P<0.05).Conclusions1.SF-1 protein and StAR protein were expressed in ectopic endometrium and the expression was significantly higher than normal endometrium. There was significant relativity between the expression of SF-1 and StAR in the endometriotic tissues.2.The expression of SF-1 protein and StAR protein in EMs was associated with the severity of endometriosis.
