Background:Chronic pancreatitis(CP) is one of the chronic disease in the whole world. The major pathogenesis is pancreatic fibrosis, and the key process of pancreatic fibrosis is the activation of pancreatic stellate cell(PSC). The activation of PSC not only has a close relationship with pancreatitis, but also plays an important role in pancreatic cancer,so the study about cytokine which can activate PSC has an active influence on the therapy of pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer. Objective: To study the correlation of the activation of PSC and the expression of BMP-4 in the pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer. Methods: 12 cases tissues of chronic pancreatitis, 12 cases tissues of pancreatic cancer and 6 cases tissues of normal pancreas were invested in the experiments. the immumohistochemical results of the expression ofα-SMA and BMP-4 in these tissues were analysed by the anlysis of computer medical anlyze system. Results: (1)The expression of a-SMA and BMP-4 in the pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer were higher than in normal group (P<0.01) . (2)There were closely positive correlations between theα-SMA and BMP-4 in these tissues (r=0.85, P<0.01)Conclusion: The activation of PSC has closely positive correlations with BMP-4. BMP-4 play a role in the activation of PSC.
