Objective To investigate the relevance between the VEGF(Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor),TNF-α(Tumor Necrosis Factor-α) level in serum and aqueous of cataract patients with diabetes and the degree of Diabetic Retinopathy. To estimate the preoperative fundus situation ,inflammatory respose after operation, prognosis and the disease progress of cataract patients with diabetes. Methods Determine the VEGF,TNF-αlevel of 60 cataract patients with diabetes(divide into A B C group by the fundus examination after operations) ,20 cataract patients with diabetes and no retinopathy (A),26 cataract patients with diabetes and background retinopathy (B),14 cataract patients with diabetes and proliferative diabetic retinopathy(C),20 normal control group(D).Results The VEGF and TNF-αlevel in experimental group aqueous shows an obviously tendency of increasing in the same direction depend on whether the cataract patients with diabetes have diabetic retinopathy and the different degree of diabetic retinopathy. The VEGF and TNF-αlevel in aqueous are correlated positively obviously differences are statistical significance(P<0.05). TNF-αlevel in serum shows an obviously tendency of increasing depend on whether the cataract patients with diabetes have diabetic retinopathy and the different degree of diabetic retinopathy(P<0.05),but the VEGF in serum shows no obviously difference in simple diabetic retinopathy group and proliferative diabetic retinopathy group(P>0.05), The VEGF and TNF-αlevel shows no relevance in proliferative diabetic retinopathy group. Conclusion The VEGF,TNF-αlevel in serum and aqueous of cataract patients with diabetes shows consistency when the state of diabetic retinopathy is still in the period of simple diabetic retinopathy, in addition it is shows that there's a relevanc between the VEGF and TNF-αlevel.TNF-αlevel in serum and aqueous changes consistent when the state of diabetic retinopathy is in the period of proliferative diabetic retinopathy, but VEGF level in serum and aqueous shows the opposite. That shows TNF-αlevel in serum can more comprehensive respose the degree of retinopathy in cataract patients with diabetes than VEGF level in serum does, especially in the degree of proliferative diabetic retinopathy.
