Objective:To investigate the application of high-frequency ultrasound evaluation of vascular dementia in elderly patients with carotid atheros- clerosis and its clinical significance. Methods: Clinically diagnosed with vascular dementia in elderly patients with 55 cases, 58 cases of the control group. The use of high- frequency ultrasound in detecting carotid-intima-media thickness (IMT) and atherosclerotic plaque formation. Results:The results of carotid color Doppler ultrasound discovered that old patients with vascular dementia showed different degree carotid artherosclerosis; The incidence of carotid atherosclerosis and its plague formation in patient group was significantly higher than that in control group. The IMT and the plaque incidence of Vascular dementia in elderly group was significantly higher than the control group(P <0.05); The detection of soft plaque in the group of vascular dementia was higher than morphea and mixed plaques (P <0.05).Conclusion:The IMT and atherosclerotic plaque formation rate in patients with vascular dementia was significantly higher than the control group, the ratio of soft plaques in stroke group was high.High-frequency ultrasound is a simple and effective method in detecting carotid athero- sclerosis in vascular dementia and has important clinical value.
