Objective:To detect the expression of Wnt inhibitory factor-1 (Wif-1) in bladder urothelial cell carcinoma(BUCC) and evaluate its clinical signification.Method:The expression of Wif-1 was detected in 40 paraffin sections with BUCC and 20 paraffin sections with non-tumorous bladder tissues by immunohistochemistry(SABC).The results were analysed with the clinical stage, pathological grade and the number of BUCC.Results:The expression of Wif-1 was mainly showed in cytolymph and intercellular substance.4 negative cases,7 weak positive cases and 9 strong positive cases were showed in non-tumorous bladder tissues.21 negative cases,11 weak positive cases and 8 strong positive cases were showed in BUCC.The expression of Wif-1 in non-tumorous bladder tissues was distinctly higher than the expression in BUCC(P<0.05).The expression of Wif-1 in high clinical stage was lower than it in low clinical stage and the expression of Wif-1 in low clinical stage was lower than it in non-tumorous bladder tissues(P<0.05).The expression of Wif-1 in high pathological grade was lower than it in low pathological grade and the expression of Wif-1 in low pathological grade was lower than it in non-tumorous bladder tissues(P<0.05).The expression of Wif-1 showed no significance with the number of BUCC(P<0.05).Conclusions:The expression of Wif-1 is closely correlated with the clinical stage and pathological grade of BUCC and could assist to the diagnosis and prediction of BUCC.But this research could not provide evidence that the expression of Wif-1 is interrelated with the number of BUCC.
