Objective:To investigate the expressions of matrix metalloproteinases13 (MMP-13) and nuclear factor kappaB(NF-κB) in human nucleus pulposus of the degenerated lumbar discs,to analyze the related significance of them in the process of intervertebral disc degeneration, and the correlation in the expressions of the two factors,to supply the theoretical support for treating the degenerative disc disease. Methods:The experimental group consisted of 30 cases of degenerated lumbar intervertebral disc tissues obtained by surgical operation from 2007 to 2008 as lesions group, immunohistochemistry was used to test the expression of NF-κB and MMP-13. And the tissues of normal intervertebral disc tissueswere obtained from 8 patients as control group. Results:The expression of NF-κB and MMP-13 in the lesions group was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05),The expression of MMP13 and NF-κB had determinate correlation.r=0.7330.Conclusion: NF-κB and MMP-13 might play a key role in the degenerated lumbar intervertebral disc. The expression of MMP13 is regulated by NF-κB.
