Objective To assess the changs of left and right ventricular function in newborns with hypoxic cardiac damage using Doppler Tei index.Methods Left ventricular Ejection fraction(EF),Left and right ventricular Tei index,Isovolumic relaxation time(IRT),Isovolumic contraction time(ICT),Ejection time(ET),peak E and peak A and E/A were calculated with PhilipsIE33 ultrasonic system in 60 unimpaired full term newborns ,40 gestational age-matched infants with serious asphyxia and 40 gestational age-matched infants with light asphyxia., All hypoxic infants have cardiac damage.In addition, serum creatine kinase MB isoenzyme(CK-MB)and Tei index were analyzed in asphyxial neonates,and after treatment in asphyxial neonates,part of heart function indics were measured and compared again.Results①Left ventricular Ejection fraction(EF),left ventricular peak E,peak A and E/ A ratio ( E/ A) were not significantly difference between the hypoxic infants and the control group(P>0.05) .②Right ventricular peak E,peak A and E/ A ratio ( E/ A) were not significantly difference between the hypoxic infants and the control group(P>0.05) .③Left and right ventricular Tei index,Isovolumic relaxation time(IRT),Isovolumic contraction time(ICT) were significant increased in the newborns with asphyxia group(P <0.01) , The serious asphyxia group was higher than the light asphyxia group , Ejection time(ET) was decreased in hypoxic infants, but it was not significantly difference between the serious asphyxia group and the light asphyxia group(P>0.05).④there was a positive correlation between CK-MB and left and right ventricular Tei index(r=0. 0.787,0.773, P <0.01)⑤C K-MB,Left and right ventricular Tei index,IRT,ICT were obviously decreased after treatment in asphyxial neonates,but Left and right ventricular ET were obviously increased after treatment in asphyxial neonates.Conclusion Tei index is a valuable , sensitive data which to estimate ventricular systolic and diastolic functions in newborns with hypoxic cardiac damage.this study demonstrates that Tei index have many advantages such as simple ,accurate,feasible compared with other traditional measurements(EF,FS,E,A,E/A) when it is used to evaluate the ventricular funtion in newborns with hypoxic cardiac damage,and there were significant correlation between CK-MB level and the left and right ventricular Tei index in newborns with hypoxic cardiac damage,So we can conclude that measurement of the Tei index is a reliable maker in the diagnosis and treatment of newborns hypoxic cardiac damage and can be widely used in clinic.
