Objective:Based on clinical observation, the research focus on the therapeutic effect of acupuncture therapy combined Chinese medicinal herb treatment on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease(COPD) patients in stable phase,as well as its impact on pulmonary functions. Methods:According to inclusion criteria,86 COPD patients in stable phase in pulmonary disease department of Xiamen hospital of traditional Chinese medicine from February 2008 to November 2009 were divided randomly and equally into two groups,43 cases as acupuncture and Chinese medicine group, which were treated with acupuncture and moxibustion (wenyangfang) and Chinese medicinal herb(wenyanghuweitang),43 cases as controlled group, which were treated by Chinese medicinal herb(wenyanghuweitang) only. The syndrome and objective sign were observed as well as the pulmonary function. All patients were examined one day before and after the treatment(after three sessions of treatment). At last, all data was analyzed by a statistical software-SPSS 13.0 for windows.Results:1 Compared with the control group, the marked effective rate(P) of the acupuncture and Chinese medicine group is less than 0.05,while the overall clinical effective rate(P) of the two group is larger than 0.05.According to the two factors, the combination of acupuncture and Chinese medicine can improve the marked effective rate of COPD in stable phase, but the overall clinical effect is almost the same.2 After treatment, patients'pulmonary functions were significantly improved in both groups.Compared with the controlled group, the acupuncture and Chinese medicine group has better factors:FEV1(P<0.05),FEV1%(P<0.05),FEV1/FVC%(P<0.05) which indicates that the combination of acupuncture and Chinese medicine is better at improving stable COPD patients' pulmonary function.3 There are no cases missing or showing serious adverse effects, which indicate the high level of compliance, safety and reliability when using acupuncture combined with Chinese medicine.Conclusions:1 The key pathogenesis of COPD in stable phase is the deficiency both of qi and yang. 2 Compared with Western Medicine, the treatment of acupuncture combined with Chinese medicine is much better at improving the pulmonary function for COPD patients in stable phase. It provides a new treatment for COPD patients in stable phase. It's also a good clinical reference for the evaluation of the acupuncture and moxibustion treatment in the field of COPD in stable phase.3 The combination of acupuncture and Chinese medicine can improve the efficiency and safety of the treatment in the field of COPD in stable phase.
