Scientists began to research on sugar in the 19th century, because of the structure of sugar chain is complex and changeable, and physical and chemical analysis tools lagged behind, there was less progress on the knowing of sugar in scientific field since more than 100 years ago. Until the early 21st century, with the human genome sequencing work were completed, the life sciences enter into the new era of functional genomics and proteomics.The scientist discovered that some functions of protein and were closely related to sugar chain, it was difficult to explain many functions of protein if we had not clarified the structure and the function of sugar.Understanding and researching on sugar becomes another hot spot in life sciences.Recent advances in study on polysaccharides in plants and research actuality of Radix hedysari polysaccharide were reviewed.In order to exploiture Radix hedysari polysaccharide with hypoglycemic activity, we studied on separation,purfication of Radix hedysari polysaccharide and determination of its constitution.,including following several parts:1. The extraction and isolation technology of Radix hedysari polyscacharides were studied with orthogonal test.Detecting its total sugar content is more than 60% by phenol-sulfuric acid method.2. Purifying the Radix Hedysari polysaccharides obtained by stepwise ethanol precipitation by Sephadex G-200 and Sephadex G-25.3. Purified Radix Hedysari polysaccharides were hydrolysised and derivated , then analyzed by GC.It was proved that Radix Hedysari polysaccharides were composed of five monosaccharides.4. The molecular weight was estimated by HPLC to be in the range of5.7×10~5~1.0×10~3.5. Liquorice in Fuzhengshengya was distinguished by TLC.To develop a simple,steady,reliable method to distinguish Liquorice in Fuzhengshengya.
