The Value Of High-resolution Ultrasonography In Determining The Regeneration Of Sutured Peripheral Nerves

Objective Find the difference between the high-resolution ultrasonography and electromyography(EMG) in judgeing the quality of anastomic of the peripheral nerve. Compare the authenticity,specificity,sensitivity about them in different periods in order to check the value of high-resolution ultrasonography in determining the regeneration of sutured peripheral nerves.Methoeds A total of 32 patients with 42 sutured nerves that meet the following conditions:(1) all of them received high-resolution ultrasonography before the reoperation;(2) all of them taken the EMG during the reoperation;(3) the reoperation was either "Neural release and scar excision" or "neuroma resection and neural re-anastomosis";(4) the follow-up informations of the patients who had taken the "Neural release and scar excision" had been well collected;(5) the neuromas of the patients who had taken the "neuroma resection and neural re-anastomosis" had taken pathological ananysis.All patients received high-resolution ultrasonography to check that whether the quality of the anastomotic was good enough before the reoperation,and during the reoperation,the EMG was taken to assessed the quality of the anastomotic.The actual quality decided to the recovery of the pations function and the results of pathological examination,which we chosed as "gold standard"Compare the results of EMG and high-resolution ultrasonography with the "gold standard" separately.Calculate the authenticity,specificity and sensitivity of EMG and high-resolution ultrasonography.Analysis the results to find out the difference of them and assess the value of high-resolution ultrasonography in determining the regeneration of sutured peripheral nerves.Results In a whole,the authenticity of the ultrasonography is 0.8095,has no statistical differences with the EMG;the sensitivity of the ultrasonography is about 0.8824,it is higher than the EMG,but there are no statistical differences;the sensitivity is 0.5556,has no statistical differences with the EMG.But in the period that less than 5 months after the peripheral nerve anastomosisi,the authenticity of the ultrasonography is 0.7949,it is higher than the EMG,but has no statistical differences with the EMG;the sensitivity of the ultrasonography is 0.5556,has no statistical differences with the EMG.;the sensitivity of the ultrasonography is about 0.88,it is higher than the EMG,with statistical significance;...
