Objective:We observed the dermal temperature of the fingertips to study the therapeutic mechanism and the effect of WaiGuan point with acupuncture. Methods:We evaluated the dermal temperature of the bilateral fingertips with the Thermotracer(TH3107ME) before and during the period of treatment with acupuncture on the WaiGuan point of the left forearm and after withdrawing the needle. Results:The dermal temperature raised more obviously after the treated with the acupuncture within the 1 minute of left mid-finger,2 minutes of the right mid-finger,3minutes,4minutes,and withdrew the needles within 5minutes,15minutes,20minutes than before the treated with acupuncture. The dermal temperature of the left mid-finger dropped slightly when the WaiGuan point was treated. The temperature of the left mid-finger raised steadily within 5 minutes after the treatment with acupuncture and it last out twenty minutes after the needle was withdrew and it began to drop at 25 minutes after the needle was withdrew. The dermal temperature of mid-fingertips of the treated sides is higher than the control sides after the treated with acupuncture except the 4minutes and 15minutes,but there is not the significance of statistics.Conclusion:1.The dermal temperature of the bilateral hands dropped when the WaiGuan point was treated.2.The dermal temperature of the bilateral hands rose steadily during the period of treatment with acupuncture on the WaiGuan point.3.The dermal temperature of the bilateral hands can still keep the temperature after the needle was withdrawn.4.The dermal temperature of the bilateral hands were not obvious difference between treated side and control side. 5.Acupuncture could rise the dermal temperature of the bilateral fingertips when the WaiGuan point was treated.
