Abstract/Summary:
Aim:To estimate the strength of the association between gastroesophageal reflux symptoms and features of metabolic syndrome such as obesity, hyperglycaemia, hypertension, triglycerides, fatty liver et.Methods:896 men and 473 women were assessed in the study. We used reflex diagnostic questionnaire to determine the frequency, severity, and duration of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease among selected participants,we used logistic-regression models to study the association between risk factors and symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease.Result:Of 1369 recruited participants(mean age 44.14yr,male 65.45%) who were admitted in hospital for health examination, there was 109 persons with Sc≥12,and the prevalenee of GERD in those participants was 7.96%in preliminary screening. There was not significant correlation among gender(p>0.05).We observed a significant relationship between symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and BMI≥25kg/m~2,hypertension,abdominal obesity, hyperglycaemia and(or) diabetes mellitus, fatty liver in male(p<0.05),which are conspicuous risk factors for GERD, and the multivariate odds ratios for reflux symptoms were 1.68 for BMI≥25kg/m~2,2.24 for hypertension,1.62 for abdominal obesity,1.73 for hyperglycaemia and(or) diabetes mellitus and 1.84 for fatty liver. There was no association between triglycerides, high density lipoprotein(HDL),low density lipoprotein(LDL) and reflux symptoms, and so is BMI≥25kg/m~2,hypertension,abdominal obesity, hyperglycaemia and(or) diabetes mellitus, fatty liver in female.Conclusion:BMI≥25kg/m~2,hypertension,abdominal obesity, hyperglycaemia and (or) diabetes mellitus, fatty liver in male are significant risk factors for gastroesophageal reflux symptoms.
