Objective:To investigate the effects of octreootide in the treatment of intestinal obstruction. Methods:The data of 86 patients with intestinal obstruction from Dec.2006 to Dec.2008 were analyzed retrospectively. All the patients were divided into two groups: routine treatment group(n=44)and octreotide combined with routine treatment group(n=42).The patients in routine treatment group were treated with fasting, gastrointestinal decompression, redress of Water-Electrolyte,total parenteral nutrition and antibiotics. The patients in octreotide group received hypodermic injection of octreotide(0.1mg,q8h),plus routine therapy.Symptoms, gastrointestinal secretions, leukocyte number,CRP and nasogastric tube removing were observed. Results:The rate of symptom improvement(including alleviation of abdominal pain, restoration of venting,CRP,leukocyte number, electrolyte and plain film in octreotide group was similar with routine treatment group(P>0.05).But the period of abdominal pain alleviation and fasting in octreotide group was shorter than routine treatment group notably(P<0.05),with the average gastrointestinal secretion being(173.85±48.23)ml/d VS(289.76±50.98)ml/d,the difference was significant(P<0.01).No severe side and toxic effects of octreotide were found during therapy. Conclusion:Octreotide combined with routine treatment can effectively relieve clinical symptoms, decrease the length of stay in hospital, and improve life quality in the patients with intestinal obstruction.
