Objective:To evaluate the quality of life outcome for oral squamous cell carcinoma survivors after surgery with or without preoperative chemotherapy or postoperative radiotherapy,and to investigate their variable associated with the quality of life,so as to provide certain proposals to the surgeon for clinical treatment.Methods:173 oral squamous cell carcinoma patients were chosen from the department of stomatology in the secondary affiliated hospital of Zhejiang university, college of medicine.The investigation was carried out in the form of letters,using the EORTC QLQ-H&N,QLQ-C30 questionnaire,which were self-reported by all the patients or the family members involved.The answers were sent back by the patients chosen in this investigation,from which,we collected the data and take appropriate analysis.Results:72 patients finished the questionnaire and each gave us a reply.Among which,8 cases occurred reoccurrence(11.43%),8 cases appeared metastasis(11.43 %),10 cases were died of the carcinoma(14.29%)。The patients' satisfactory to the well-being and quality of life for the week before receiving the questionnaire letter was 73.33%and73.67%,respectively。The dysfunctions and discomforts in everyday life after treatment in common included:exrostomia(33%),stick saliva(43.33%),outlook dissatisfactory(53.33%),swallow(solid,fluid) dysfunction(56.67%),mouth open dysfunction(41.67%),speaking impairment(50.00%)(common in tongue squamous cell carcinoma survivors with tongue glassectomy),psychosocial stress (20.00%) and so on。Conclusion:The nowadays treatment for oral squamous cell carcinoma has a distinguish advantage in reducing the rate of reoccurrence and metastasis;the proposal of the surgery plus preoperative chemotherapy and/or postoperative radiotherapy would results in better quality of life after treatment for the oral squamous cell carcinoma survivors.
