Objective To investigate the relationship between S100B protein concentration in cerebrospinal fluid and the degree of brain injury and prognosis in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. Methods Obtain the cerebrospinal fluid of 21 cases with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage from Neurosurgery Department, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University during Jun.2007 to Jun.2008.The GOS was estimated at six months.10 patients with communicating hydrocephalus at the same period were collected as control group.Collected cerebrospinal fluid at any day during 3-7 days after subarachnoid hemorrhage(or any day of control group),then determine the S100B protein content with ELISA.Results 1.There was a significant difference of cerebrospinal fluid S100B protein content(P <0.01) between aSAH group and the control group.2.S100B protein content had no significant difference of different locus.3.Cerebrospinal fluid S100B protein content was strongly associated with the Hunt-Hess grade.4.There was no significant difference between patients treated with surgery and those treated with endovascular coiling.5.Cerebrospinal fluid S100B protein content was associated with the GOS score at six months:the higher the S100B protein content, the poorer the prognosis. Conclusion S100B protein content of cerebrospinal fluid can objectively reflect the degree of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage in patients with brain damage,so evaluating S100B protein is helpful to judge the prognosis of patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.
