Objective To investigate the characteristics of male patients with systemic lupuserythematosus in clinic and laboratory examinations.Methods We analyzed retrospectively the clinical and laboratory data including 17 maleSLE patients, compared with another 35 female patients registered during the sameperiod.Results most female patients were in child-bearing period while the age of malepatients is more dispersed. The rate of photosensitivity and anemia in female patientswas higher than in male ones, but no significance either. There were more kidneyinvolvement and higher rate of SM-antibody in male patients, the difference wassignificant (p<0.05).Conclusion Male patients with systemic lupus erythematosus had its uniquecharacteristics in age distribution, clinical symptoms and laboratory examinations. Itwas difficult for the early diagnosis for the disease with severe conditions and poorprognosis. It should be aware if male ones had kidney function impairment andSM-antibody positive.
