Objectives To investigate the clinical characteristic of Carbapenem-Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKp) infection, the related risks as well as the corresponding prevention measures. Methods Investigation and analysis had been conducted for 39 cases from whom nosocomially acquired CRKp was isolated between July 2006 and July 2008.Results 56.41% of the samples were sputums. The average age of the patient was64.0 years old and the average length of staying in hospital was 80.8 days. 92.31% of the patients were in ICU or had stayed in ICU within 2 weeks, 2/3 of them were conscious disturbance, 97.44% performed the urethral catheterization, 87.18% having central vein tube, 76.92% performed tracheal intubation, 82.05% performed mechanical ventilation. 69.23% of the samples were positive with other bacterium, while 23.08% of the samples were positive with fungus. Patients with CRKp had a higher mortality. The prior antibiotic usage were mostly >4 kinds, majority of them exposured toβ-lactams/β-Lactamase inhibitors or carbapenems. Conclusions It is difficult to cure CRKp infection, so preventing is the most important thing. Strict isolation, contact precaution, standardized performance in ICU, and reasonably using of antibiotics can prevent the infection from spreading in hospital.
