Development Of Vulnerable Atherosclerotic Plaque In Carotid Artery

Cerebral apoplexy is a leading cause of high incidence rate , mortality , morbidity and high recurernce rate.The vulnerable atherosclerotic plaque of carotid artery is the directed origin to cerebral apoplexy. More and more proofs show that:the vulnerable atherosclerotic plaque is more dangerous than arteriostenosis to acute ischemic stroke.So to accurately illuminate the occurrence,development and rupture mechanism of the vulnerable plaque is vital to get the correct therapeutic measures.It is also very important to the prevention of ischemic cerebrovascular disease.The vulnerability of an atherosclerotic plaque to rupture is believed to be very complicated,related to its intrinsic composition and oxidative stress,inflammatory reaction. The methods of detection include serologic and imaging diagnostic techniques. There is still not a simple and precise method.This article reviewed the mechanism,correlation factors,diagnostic criteria,serologic and imaging diagnostic techniques of detecting the vulnerable plaques. And in the end we summarize the treatment of it.
