Objective The pathogenicity of Penicillium marneffei isolated from bamboo rats and patients respectively was compared by animal experimental infection through respiratory inhalation.Method Experimental mice were divided into two group. Group R and group H were inoculated with conidia suspension of wild isolats and clinical isolats respectively through respiratory inhalation .Then the mice were sacrificed after seven days. The infection status of mice by visual observation was compared. The positive rates of lungs tissue infected by Penicillium marneffei were compared. Histopathological changes of the lung tissue were examinated and compared. The bacterial load of the lung tissues were compared and analyzed. The status of normal mice and mice inoculated with normal saline were analyzed.Result The incidence of mice infected with Penicillium marneffei was 100%.The lung damage was not significant difference by visual observation. The bacterial load of the lung tissue was not significant difference. There was no significant difference on the lung tissue pathological changes of mice between two groups. The lung tissue of placebo mice group had slightly pathological changes. The lung tissue of mice of blank control group had no pathological changes. Conclusion The two kinds of Penicillium marneffei are pathogenic on mice infected through respiratory inhalation. There is not significant difference of pathogenicity between Penicilium marneffei isolated from bamboo rats and patients.
