| ObjectiveBy compare the bone mineral density(BMD) of people who suffer from lumbar disc herniation with the normal, the purpose of this study was to determine the association between lumbar disc lumbar disc herniation and BMD at the spine and hip.MethodsSubjects older than 40 years of age were studied for the existence of lumbar disc herniation by magnetic resonance imaging and clinic.BMD,Tscore and Z score was assessed at the spine and hip using dual energy x ray absorptiometry. A 1:1 matched case was found with adjustments for gender, age, menopause(women),body mass index, levels of physical activity, tribe and life style. Results In lumbar disc herniation group, the BMD,Tscore and Z score of lumbar is 1.007±0.13g/cm~2,-0.99±0.74 and -0.82±0.73.And 0.70±0.13g/cm~2,-0.11±1.14,0.16±1.11 in hip respectively. In control group, the BMD,Tscore and Z score of lumbar is 0.999±0.09g/cm~2,-1.15±0.55 and-0.98±0.56.And 0.67±0.12g/cm~2,-0.42±1.04,-0.15±1.07 in hip respectively.BMD,Tscore,Z score have no significantly change between the lumbar disc herniation group judged at the L2-L3 level and hip and the control group(P>0.05). ConclusionsIn conclusion, there was no difference between the BMD and lumbar disc herniation.Lumbar disc herniation does not influences the change of BMD. |
