Depression is one of the most frequently visible psychological disorders of our human beings. Especially in the modern society with accelerating life speed, more and more severe competition, and steep rising psychological stress, the incidence of depression rises day after day, and depression has become a major factor of harming human's physiological and mental health. A cooperative research by the WHO, the World Bank and the Harvard University showed that depression had occupied the second place of Chinese medical bills. There had been more than 26 million Chinese people suffering from depression which resulted in direct economic loss of RMB 14.1 billions, indirect economic loss of RMB 48.1 billions and total economic loss of RMB 62.2 billions. The adolescent and the adult more often suffer from depression, and this disease has such a character of high suicide rate, low cure rate and high relapsing rate which disturbs seriously an individual's state of health, socializing, working and living, and leaves the family great difficulty. Still more, the suicide of some patients has thrown their relatives into unending darkness and pain! To overcome depression, the older generations the medic and of the psychologist work hard one by one and have got many fruits.This research tries to go on working in this area. A person's drawing would project the content of his or her unconsciousness, so that we can find a depression sufferer's psychological reasons by analyzing the drawing. Imagery Communication Psychotherapy (ICP) which was formed by a Chinese professor has been proved convenient and effective by practices. Drawing Analysis Test and ICP are both very interesting. They both belong to Projective Technologies. They will be used in this research to find the reasons of a major depression sufferer's disorder and to treat it to explore the way how to use them effectively and to measure the effect produced by ICP on a major depression sufferer.The method used in this research is case analysis belonging to qualitative research. During the research three major depression sufferers have been selected according to the diagnosis standards of CCMD-3 and then they have been tested by using Drawing Analysis Test and treated by using ICP. The change of the scores of Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) is used as the standard to assess the counseling effect. This paper reports the counseling courses of all the three sufferers, analyzing the problems projected by each drawing, explaining the symbolic meanings of each imagery and the purpose that why to mend the imagery.The conclusions are as follows:1. By analyzing a sufferer's drawing can find effectively the essential reason of the sufferer's disorder, to establish a solid base for diagnosing and counseling.2. Imagery Communication Psychotherapy can treat the problem hidden in a sufferer's unconsciousness, and is very effective to treat mood disorders.3.It can effectively treat a major depression sufferer by using Drawing Analysis Test and ICP.4. It is less time-consuming and less money-paying to use Drawing Analysis Test and ICP, so that the sufferer would be insistent to be treated.5. Drawing Analysis Test and ICP are both very interesting and very convenient.6. In the view of Chinese culture, ICP is more suitable for Chinese people.
