Objective:To evaluate the surgical results and the value of posterior lumbar decompression and intervertebral bone fusion with pedicle screw interval fixation in degenerative lumbar scoliosis.Method:From Jan.2000 to Feb.2008,87 cases with degenerative lumbar scoliosis who underwent posterior lumbar decompression and intervertebral bone fusion with pedicle screw interval fixation, including 38 male and 49 female patients aged 45—79,60.8years old averagely were chosen. All the patients were assessed by routine X ray ,CT and MRI were performed if necessarily. According to patients symptom, total or semi-larninectomy, intervertebral bone fusion with pedicle screw interval fixation were performed. We gave a mark to every patient respectively in the stage of pre-operation and post-operation strictly with JOA standard of cervical spondylotic myelopathy, and followed up the cervical fusion status.Result: The following-up period varied from 0.5 year to 8 years(average 2 years and 8 months)。The highest JOA scores was 10,the lowest was 5,the mean mark was 6.28±1.25 at pre-operation;The highest JOA scores was 16,the lowest was 13 ,the mean scores was 14.95±0.87,in about a week after operation. The mean post-operation score is 8.67 more than pre-operation.Postoperative clinical symptoms of all cases were obtained aniso-improvement, the highest improved rate was 85%,the lowest was 25%..The height of intervertebral disc did not shorten and fake arthrosis did not appear. The fusion-appliance did not move, the interplanation's loosen and breakage did not appear during our following up. The solid arthrodesis rate was 91.9% .Conclusion: In the treatment of the elderly patients with degenerative symptomatic lumbar scoliosis, the individual treatment plans for the surgery were necessary. The technique of posterior lumbar decompression and intervertebral bone fusion with pedicle screw interval fixation were safe and satisfying for the elderly patients with degenerative symptomatic lumbar scoliosis.
