The Clinical Study Of Using Acupoint Catgut Implantation In The Treatment Of Simple Obesity

Background:Obesity can be classified into two main types:simple obesity and conseouential obesity.The former is a result of energy imbalance in which absorption is greater than consumption.Thus,the weight gain is the result of excess fat stored in the body.Simple obesity constitutes 95%of all types of obesity.Its rate of incidence is directly influenced by community development,standards of living,conduct of behavior,and diet composition. Consequential obesity is a result of other medical conditions,such as tumor growth in the hypothalamus and pituitary,trauma,infection and inflammation, malfunction of the hypothalamus,hypothyroidism,Cushing syndrome,polycystic ovary syndrome,and insulinoma.Obesity greatly affects one's quality of life and lowers his/her living standards.Among all kinds of weight losing methods,acupuncture is one that is effective,free of side effects and rebounce rate is small.Moreover,acupuncture is a based on a holistic concept which works not only as a healer but also as a prevention.Needles are not the only tools used in acupuncture,catgut implantation is also a common method in the field.The application is well known to be effective,easy and effortless:furthermore,its curative effective is definite and long-lasting.Purpose:To investigate the curative effect of applying catgut implantation to certain acupoints in the treatment of simple obesity.Method: We randomly divided sixty simple obese patients into treatment(catgut implantation) group and control(needle application) group.At the beginning and end of treatment,the patients' body mass index(BMI),weigh were assessed and calculated.Results:1.At the end of one course of treatment,both treatment and control groups had significant improvements.The difference in the groups was not significant(p＞0.05).2.Both groups' treatment were effective;yet catgut implantation revealed a more significant result than simple needling(p＜0.05).Conclusions:Both methods of treatment had significant weight losing effect,and were able to decrease the bust line,waistline and hipline.However,the catgut implantation showed a more significant effect than simple needling.
